As a Jewish Renewal congregation, the Havurah is dedicated to making learning a joyous experience for the children. Rabbi David Zaslow says that, "The Havurah Hebrew school has a special way of making our ancient traditions meaningful to our children. Through hands on learning, praying, singing, storytelling, humor, and art we are dedicated to making each and every Sunday morning as memorable an event as possible." Each week the school begins with a child-centered prayer service, led by Rabbi David, during which the children learn traditional songs and prayers by singing, praying, and dancing. Afterwards, when the children go to class, Rabbi David leads a parent's class on the theme of "Making Judaism Come Alive at Home." School Director Ayala Zonnenschein explains, "Our goal is to empower children by imparting to them the relevance of Judaism to their lives via experiential learning that engages all their senses. Through acts of loving kindness, charitable giving and community service we strive to give the children a sense of responsibility and belonging to the community". The Havurah's Sunday program is geared toward Bar and Bat Mitzvah, and while children are learning in a creative environment they are learning all the traditional aspects of Jewish ethics, Torah, and prayers. The School starts at 9:30 AM and concludes at 12:15 PM each Sunday. |
