Bear Creek Greenway
Plans are for the Bear Creek Greenway to become a 21-mile path from Oak and Nevada Streets in Ashland to the Seven Oaks Interchange in Central Point. Some sections of the trail are complete and fully paved which makes them suitable for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters, strollers and wheelchair users. Motorized vehicles are prohibited (with the exception of maintenance vehicles and motorized wheelchairs.) There are two completed sections so far. From Suncrest Road north of Talent extending to Nevada Street in Ashland the Greenway trail is 5.25 miles long. From Pine Street in Central Point to Barnett Road in Medford the Greenway trail is 5.75 miles long. The six mile stretch from Medford to Talent is soon to be completed.
There is an excellent trail guide available at the Bear Creek Foundation's web site which details the flora and fauna found along Bear Creek and the Greenway’s ecological significance to the surrounding areas. The Greenway provides a place to exercise, study nature and escape the city environment without needing to go too far away. Unlike an urban park which is an island of green within a city, the Greenway is a naturally formed open continuous space that connects communities and their parks.
