“The mission of Walker School is to develop lifelong learners in a nurturing environment, which focuses on self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, problem solving and self-expression, to enhance growth for all members of the Walker community. Walker provides a strong academic and arts-rich education that encourages children to become independent learners. We welcome families to participate in all aspects of the school from daily classroom activities to school governance.
We believe that, whenever possible, children and teachers should remain together for more than one year, allowing a strong understanding of students' strengths and needs and reducing the number of transitions in a child's elementary education. We teach and learn in multi-age, blended classrooms to provide this consistency for children and families. The multi-age classrooms enhance student achievement and social/emotional development. Walker is the school district's center for students learning English as their second language.
Our school has 320 children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Our class size goals are 18 students for kindergarten, 21 for first and second grades, and 24 for third through fifth grades. Michelle Zundel, Principal”
