Jefferson State Pub History
From a laundry company in the 20’s to a micro-pub in 1997, the concrete building on Water Street has a diverse history. In 1988 the Rogue Brewery and Public House brewed it’s first Shakespeare Stout, which started it on the way to national recognition. The brewery was hit by a severe flood New Year’s Eve 1996 when Ashland Creek rose an estimated 10 to 12 feet. After the devastation, the brewery was rebuilt to become a multi-tap micro-pub and restaurant. In June of that year, during the remodel, the pub suffered a setback when flames swept through the upstairs business. The pub was christened “ Hell or High-water “ by local residents, and the motto stuck. On July 4, 1997 the Siskiyou Micro-pub opened and went on to celebrate nine years in business until in 2006 the establishment became what is now The Jefferson State Pub.
The high water mark can be seen inside the pub, left of the ramp door. Just outside the door stands the grain silo symbolizing the pub’s brewing history.
